What is Coaches vs. Cancer?

As part of the Comcast Spotlight Sports Speaker Series, The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide. The program seeks to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living among students, faculty and staff, fans, and the community at large.

Coaches vs. Cancer Nashville started in 2009 spearheaded by Coach Hank Fengler. Coach Fengler has been inducted into the Onondaga Community College, Syracuse New York Sports Hall of Fame – the Wall of Distinction, North Syracuse School District – and has coached basketball at the college, high school and recreational levels for more than 35 years. He became involved with Coaches vs. Cancer in Syracuse after losing his oldest son, Keith, to cancer in 1998. Coach Fengler is personally responsible for rallying the Middle Tennessee area basketball coaches to support this initiative.

The 2014 Coaches vs. Cancer luncheon in Nashville will include the following guests:

  •     Coach Casey Alexander, Lipscomb University
